HOPE FOR AN AGREEMENT FROM TRUMP
President Trump welcomed Zelensky at the door of Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach. In a statement regarding the meeting, Trump said, "A lot of people are dying! I think both presidents want to make a deal."
The two leaders answered questions from the press before the meeting. Trump stated, "I think Putin is serious about peace. I think Zelensky is too," while responding to a question about whether he would meet with Putin soon, he replied, "It depends on the situation."
Trump said, "We will have a good meeting today. I will call Putin after the meeting. I have no time constraints. There will be a Security Guarantee Agreement. The Security Agreement will be quite strong. We are in the final stages of the talks. There will also be economic benefits for Ukraine. I will talk to European leaders after the meeting," he stated.
THANKS FROM ZELENSKY
On the other hand, Ukrainian President Zelensky thanked Trump for the meeting, emphasizing that they have been working hard on a 20-point peace plan.
Zelensky said, "Today we will talk about the 20-point plan. 90% of this plan was prepared by the teams of both sides. I think they did a great job. We will discuss these items."
Indicating that the plan would provide significant economic benefits for Ukraine, the Ukrainian President stated, "Our teams have worked on a prosperity and security document. They discussed how we will proceed step by step. We will discuss this strategy today. I hope all these documents contribute to achieving peace as soon as possible."
"WE ARE IN THE FINAL STAGE"
After the statements, discussions between the two leaders began behind closed doors. Before the press was taken out, Trump stated, "We are in the final stage of the talks. It will either end or continue for a long time."
Before meeting with Zelensky, Trump had also spoken on the phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
SIMPLE WELCOME CEREMONY FOR ZELENSKY
Ukrainian President Zelensky arrived in the US with a minimal ceremony in Miami, without high-level US officials or formal greetings. This situation painted a different picture compared to the detailed official ceremonies during Zelensky's previous visits to the US.
ZELENSKY'S OUTFIT DREW ATTENTION
On the other hand, upon his arrival in the US, Ukrainian President Zelensky was seen getting off the plane in a short-sleeved black t-shirt and black pants, while he was observed wearing a shirt and jacket during the meeting.
Zelensky had faced harsh criticism for not wearing a suit during the tumultuous meeting at the White House on February 28.
