The workshop titled 'Compliance of Regional Court of Appeals Decisions with Supreme Court Jurisprudence', projected by the Presidency of the Supreme Court, has started in Izmir. The aim of the workshop is to ensure unity in judicial decisions and to enhance legal reliability.

The second workshop titled "The Compliance of Regional Court of Appeals Decisions with Supreme Court Jurisprudence," planned by the Supreme Court Presidency, has started in Izmir. In the opening of the workshop held between February 4-8, Supreme Court President Ömer Kerkez emphasized that their main goal is "to ensure the same decisions are given for the same events."

The workshop, organized with the participation of Supreme Court rapporteur judges, relevant department members, and especially the presidents and members of the Regional Court of Appeals (BAM) working in the earthquake-affected areas, continued in a conference hall of a hotel in Izmir. The workshop, which is stated to have the fundamental aim of ensuring unity in judicial decisions, aims to align BAM decisions with Supreme Court jurisprudence, strengthen legal predictability, and increase citizens' trust in justice.

"OUR MAIN THEME IS MUTUAL EXCHANGE OF IDEAS"

In his opening speech at the workshop, Supreme Court President Ömer Kerkez conveyed the starting point of the project with the following words: "When we thought about bringing this project to life as the Supreme Court, our main theme was to come together with our regional courts of appeals, to mutually exchange ideas on decisions, to explain Supreme Court practices firsthand, and to ensure mutual compliance. As a natural consequence of this, we aimed to establish legal reliability from the perspective of our citizens."

AGENDA: EARTHQUAKE CASES

Recalling that the first workshop was held in November on Cadastre and Forest Law, Kerkez stated that the main theme of the second and third meetings has been determined as "earthquake." President Kerkez, who is also from Hatay and feels the pains of the earthquake closely, pointed out that tens of thousands of cases have been brought into the judicial process. Emphasizing the importance of quick and fair decisions in earthquake cases, Kerkez made the following evaluations: "We want these cases to be resolved in harmony throughout the process extending from first-instance courts to regional courts of appeals and the Supreme Court. The main slogan of our workshop is 'Same decisions for the same events.' Our citizens expect both quick and fair decisions that will remedy their grievances, especially in earthquake cases. Ensuring this is a shared responsibility for all of us."

"INTERNAL FAMILY EVALUATION"

Providing information about the structure of the meeting, Kerkez stated that the workshop was designed with a sincere understanding to offer a "we to us" evaluation environment, describing the process as an "internal family evaluation." The workshop will continue in Izmir until February 8. Along with Supreme Court President Ömer Kerkez, Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor Ali Yeldan and representatives of the judiciary community attended the workshop.
