A case has been filed against Kadir Sarıkavak, who was arrested on charges of murdering Mevlüt Ozan Altar, who went missing in Karaman in 2011, with a request for a 'life imprisonment' sentence. DNA testing conducted on 23 bone fragments found at Sarıkavak's farm, where searches were carried out as part of the investigation, did not match Altar. It is believed that the bones may belong to Bekir Özkay, who was also missing and worked at the same farm during that time.

In 2011, Ayşe Atlar, the mother of Mevlüt Ozan Atlar, who went missing in Karaman, filed a missing person report. During the search efforts conducted by the gendarmerie at that time, no trace of Atlar was found. In 2024, Ayşe Atlar participated in a television program to find her son. In the program, she claimed that her husband's separate life was related to her son's disappearance. Following Ayşe Atlar's allegations, the gendarmerie reopened the missing person's case. After their investigations, the gendarmerie stated that the missing incident did not occur within their jurisdiction and transferred the case to the police.

SPECIAL TEAM ESTABLISHED

A special team was formed within the Homicide Bureau of the Public Security Branch of the Karaman Provincial Police Department. The special team examined the evidence related to Atlar one by one. The police, who interviewed over 60 people, began technical and physical surveillance of the individuals they suspected with the permission of the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. As a result of their work, the police determined that Mevlüt Ozan Atlar had purchased a vehicle from someone in Karaman with four friends, and they went to sell the vehicle in Konya without paying for it. It was later established that after sharing the money with his friends, Atlar returned to Karaman while the other friends went to different provinces.

5 SUSPECTS DETAINED

The teams determined that Mevlüt Ozan Atlar, who returned to Karaman, went to the farm owned by Kadir Sarıkavak, where he had previously worked, to collect the remaining amount from his salary without stopping by his home. It was also found that the last signal from Atlar's mobile phone was received in the farm area. The police, deepening their investigation, discovered that Kadir Sarıkavak, the farm owner, had sold Atlar's mobile phone. After six months of work, a simultaneous operation was carried out in Karaman, Ankara, and Antalya in February of last year. In the operation, farm owner Kadir Sarıkavak, his son I.S., and individuals T.Ö., H.E., and A.Ç., who were alleged to be involved in the incident, were detained. The five suspects were referred to the courthouse after their procedures at the police station. Kadir Sarıkavak, who did not accept the charges against him, was arrested on the allegation of murdering Atlar. The other four were released under judicial control.

23 BONE FRAGMENTS FOUND

The indictment prepared by the Karaman Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has been completed. In the indictment, a life sentence was requested for Kadir Sarıkavak for the crime of 'intentional murder.' Additionally, it was stated in the indictment that during the search conducted at the farm as part of the investigation, 23 bone fragments and a carpet in which the body was wrapped were found in the concrete part of the barn. It was noted that the DNA test of the found bones did not match the DNA of Atlar's family.

THE BONES MAY BELONG TO BEKİR ÖZKAY

It was stated that the bones might belong to Bekir Özkay, who worked at the same farm and went missing during that period. The indictment also mentioned that an examination of Sarıkavak's mobile phone revealed that he had conducted research on topics such as penalties received after the murder. The prepared indictment was accepted by the Heavy Penal Court.
