THREATENING IRAN WITH 10,000 TROOPS
As negotiations between the US and Iran are ongoing, it has been suggested that the Pentagon is considering the deployment of approximately 10,000 additional troops to increase its military presence in the Middle East. The plan is said to aim at strengthening Washington's position at the negotiating table by increasing its power on the ground.
It has been claimed that the US Department of Defense is working on a new plan to enhance military capacity in the region. According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, while the Washington administration continues its diplomatic contacts, it is simultaneously keeping military options on the table.
The report stated that the Pentagon is evaluating the deployment of approximately 10,000 more troops to the Middle East in order to present broader military alternatives to Donald Trump. It was expressed that these forces could be in addition to the thousands of troops previously planned to be deployed, including about 5,000 Marines and 1,000 from the 82nd Airborne Division.
WHICH COUNTRIES THEY WILL BE SENT TO IS UNCLEAR
No clear statement has yet been made regarding which countries or bases the reinforcement forces will be deployed to within the region. White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly stated in her assessment of the issue that official announcements would be made by the Pentagon, emphasizing that all military options are available to the President.
On the other hand, it had previously been claimed that approximately 3,000 troops from the 82nd Airborne Division, known as the "rapid response force" of the US Army, were planned to be deployed to the region.
