The pioneer of the electric vehicle industry, Tesla, has announced the start of production for its new car model priced at $25,000. It has been stated that this model will play a significant role in improving the company's financial performance. This new vehicle, named Model Q, will be produced on the same assembly line as the Model Y and will be a shorter, simplified version without a glass roof and with a streamlined equipment level.
As a pioneer in the electric vehicle market, Tesla has passed an important milestone in its long-anticipated affordable car project. In the statements made as part of the company's Q2 2025 financial report, it was announced that the first production of the new model, expected to be around $25,000, has begun.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk pointed out the significant drop in revenues, stating that this new model will play a crucial role in recovering the company's financial performance. Indeed, the company's second-quarter revenue remained at $22.5 billion, reflecting a 13% decline. Therefore, Tesla has focused on producing more affordable models to utilize the capacity of its existing factories more efficiently.
MODEL Q IS ON THE WAY, IT WILL BE A COMPACT VERSION OF MODEL Y
This new vehicle, which has begun production, is reportedly referred to as "Model Q" in the public. The Model Q, which will come off the same production line as the Model Y, is expected to be a compact electric vehicle with shorter dimensions, no glass roof, simplified equipment level, and an approximate range of 400 kilometers.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk also confirmed that the model will be a smaller and more accessible version of the Model Y rather than a completely new design. Thus, the rumors are largely turning into reality.
IT IS EXPECTED TO COME TO TURKEY AS WELL
According to the statements made during Tesla's financial meeting, mass production and official introduction are planned to take place in the fourth quarter of the year. The company's CFO, Vaibhav Taneja, confirmed that production has technically begun, while stating that the introduction and large-scale shipments have been postponed to the last quarter.
The reason for this delay is that the incentives for electric vehicles in the U.S. will end at the end of the third quarter of the year. During this period, Tesla has shifted its entire focus to the production of its best-selling model, the Model Y.
On the other hand, it was stated that the affordable new model will be produced not only in the U.S. but also at the Giga Berlin factory in Germany. If there are no changes in the planning, this model is expected to be available for order in Turkey before the end of 2025.
