In a statement shared on the social media account of the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was stated, "The Thai government expresses its gratitude to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for the ceasefire proposal, which Thailand has fully accepted in principle and will evaluate." Meanwhile, the statement indicated that Cambodia continued its attacks in the border region throughout the day, sharing the view that "any ceasefire must be suitable for the conditions on the ground." The actions of Cambodia were described as "lacking goodwill," and it was stated that "the Thai government has the responsibility to protect its independence and its people to the end."

CAMBODIA: THE WAY TO SOLVE THE ARMED CONFLICT LIES IN THE WILLINGNESS OF THE THAI SIDE

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet also stated on his social media account that they accepted the ceasefire, saying, "The way to resolve the current armed conflict between Thailand and Cambodia lies in the willingness of the Thai side to accept the ceasefire."

MALAYSIA STATED THAT TIME IS NEEDED FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE CEASEFIRE

On the other hand, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim addressed the ceasefire in his speech at the 2025 Anti-Drug Day celebration. Anwar Ibrahim stated that both sides need time to withdraw their troops from the border region.

BORDER TENSION BETWEEN THAILAND AND CAMBODIA

Thailand and Cambodia, located in the Southeast Asia region and separated by 817 kilometers of border fences, have long been experiencing territorial disputes. Following the violation of the border agreement between Thailand and Cambodia, a brief conflict occurred in the region on May 28, and the armies of both countries agreed to resolve the issue peacefully. Thailand announced that all control points on the Cambodia border would be controlled by the Bangkok administration.

Approximately two months later, in the clashes that broke out yesterday along the border line, so far 1 person has died in Cambodia and 14 in Thailand. Both countries announced that they evacuated thousands of people from the region. The parties accuse each other of firing the first shot.
