According to reports, a major crisis erupted within the family when the elderly man transferred a large portion of his wealth to his 68-year-old new wife. Upon learning of the situation, his children came to the hospital to "rescue" their father.
The incident took place at a hospital in the Zhongshan District of Taipei. Wang, who was in a wheelchair, was being pushed out by his wife Lai at the hospital exit. However, waiting at the entrance were his three sons, three daughters-in-law, and four grandchildren.
Family members quickly approached the couple, pushing Lai aside to take control of the wheelchair and trying to take Wang with them. Security camera footage from February 3 shows Lai calling for help from the police during the scuffle, while the children chased after her. It was reported that Lai sustained minor injuries during the altercation.
After the police arrived at the scene, the family took Wang, stating that he was their father and father-in-law, and left the hospital together.
This tension occurred just a few weeks after Wang secretly married his caregiver Lai on January 5. The children claim they became aware of the marriage when they were not allowed to visit their father just a few days after the wedding.
The family alleges that the caregiver isolated Wang from the outside world, prevented him from communicating with his family, and took advantage of his declining mental health to secure financial benefits.
According to reports, Wang transferred seven properties, an insurance policy worth approximately £1.9 million, and assets totaling around £4.7 million to his wife and her children. Wang's total wealth is estimated to be between £16 million and £18.7 million.
Wang, a former land registrar, is said to own numerous properties and lands across Taiwan.
Lai denies all allegations. She has filed a complaint against the family for using force and insults, and has also requested a protection order.
Authorities stated that during the marriage registration, Wang answered questions clearly and met the legal requirements. According to Taiwanese law, individuals with legal capacity can marry regardless of age limits.
Now, both the validity of the marriage and the asset transfers will be decided by the court. This fierce struggle between the caregiver and the millionaire's family has now officially entered the legal process.
