The 25th Winter Olympics, held in Milan and Cortina, Italy, concluded with a closing ceremony. During the ceremony, various events were organized, including moments when Kirsty Coventry, the President of the International Olympic Committee, received the Olympic flag for the 2030 Winter Olympics in France.
The 25th Winter Olympics, which started on February 6 in Milan and Cortina, Italy, concluded with a closing ceremony. At the closing ceremony held at the Verona Olympic Arena, International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Kirsty Coventry, numerous diplomats, IOC members, and the heads of the national Olympic committees of the countries competing in the games were present.
In addition to performances reflecting Italian culture, modern dance and music performances were also showcased during the ceremony. Following the events that began with concerts, a parade of national flags took place.
MEDAL CEREMONY
The medals for the last two races of the cross-country skiing event were awarded to the winners during the ceremony.
The medals were presented to Swedish Ebba Andersson, Norwegian Heidi Weng, and Swiss Nadja Kaelin, who finished in the top 3 in the women's 50-kilometer mass start classic, as well as to Norwegian athletes Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo, Martin Loewstroem Nyenget, and Emil Iversen, who placed in the men's 50-kilometer mass start classic.
FRANCE RECEIVED THE OLYMPIC FLAG FOR 2030
France, which will host the 2030 Winter Olympics, received the Olympic flag in a ceremony attended by IOC President Coventry.
The handover ceremony concluded with the French flag being raised to the national anthem. After IOC President Coventry expressed her gratitude, stating that the organization was successfully held, the Olympic flames were symbolically extinguished in Milan and Cortina.
NORWAY TOOK THE LEAD
Norway topped the games with 41 medals, including 18 gold, 12 silver, and 11 bronze. The USA came in second with 33 medals, including 12 gold, while the Netherlands secured third place with a total of 20 medals, including 10 gold, 7 silver, and 3 bronze, and the host country Italy ranked fourth with 30 medals, including 10 gold, 6 silver, and 14 bronze.
Turkey concluded the event without winning any medals, represented by 8 athletes. The next Winter Olympics will be hosted by the French Alps in 2030.
