A person in Kırşehir filed a complaint, claiming that Özbağ Town Mayor İsmail Çanakçı assaulted his brother, who is a schizophrenia patient, by headbutting him due to social media posts, and then drew a weapon.
The mayor of Özbağ Municipality in Kırşehir, İsmail Çanakçı, has been reported for allegedly assaulting a schizophrenia patient.
ALLEGATION OF "HEADBUTTING A SCHIZOPHRENIA PATIENT"
According to the allegation, S.B., who resides in the Yeni Mahalle neighborhood of Özbağ, claimed that her brother was assaulted by the mayor due to social media posts. S.B. stated in her testimony that they got into a vehicle and went to their home, and that the mayor was also in the vehicle. S.B. alleged that when they arrived at their home, the mayor headbutted her brother B.B., who is a schizophrenia patient, and pulled a gun on him.
"HE PUT A GUN TO HIS FOREHEAD"
Speaking about the incident, Gülay Gündüz claimed that her uncle B.B., who lives in Özbağ, is a schizophrenia patient and was assaulted by the mayor. Gündüz stated that a medical report for the assault was obtained and a complaint was filed, saying, "My uncle, who is a schizophrenia patient living in Özbağ, was assaulted by Mayor İsmail Çanakçı. While talking to my uncle, he headbutted him and put a gun to his forehead. I will not let this incident go. I expected the mayor to help."
Mayor İsmail Çanakçı, in a statement regarding the allegations, indicated that they had also filed a criminal complaint based on recent social media posts. Çanakçı expressed that they are united with the citizens in the town and stated that they have no enmity with anyone and cannot have, emphasizing that the safety of the citizens' lives and property is entrusted to them.
It has been learned that the judicial process regarding the incident is ongoing.
