A TREASURE COMES OUT WITH EVERY DIG
The stone and earth piles inside the Turuş Rock Tombs, located within the borders of Kuyulu Village on the Adıyaman-Şanlıurfa highway, are being cleaned. Each of the Turuş Rock Tombs contains different architectural features and various reliefs, decorations, and bucrania. It is known that the Turuş Rock Tombs, which have more qualified chamber tombs than the Perre Ancient City, were on the transit route between Samsat and Zeugma during the Roman period.
"WE ARE TALKING ABOUT AN AREA OF 40-50 HECTARES"
Providing information on the subject, Adıyaman Museum Director Mehmet Alkan stated, "We are talking about an area of approximately 40-50 hectares. This is the area where 119 chamber tombs have been identified. We have cleaned about 40 chamber tombs so far. This year, we have cleaned 8 of them. Each chamber tomb we clean has a very qualified architectural decoration. The Turuş Rock Tombs, dated to the 2nd century AD, are chamber tombs built 1800 years ago."
