A tragic incident in Malaysia's Sarawak state has captured the attention of the international media. The fate of 6-year-old Cecelia Julan Intik, who went missing while swimming in the Tatau River on September 25, was revealed with the capture of two giant crocodiles. The crocodiles, caught by experts from the Sarawak Forestry Corporation, measured 5.2 and 5.5 meters in length, respectively. Due to the weight of the animals, a tugboat and crane were needed to bring them ashore. Cecelia's family reported to the police that their daughter was dragged away by a powerful predator while playing in the water. The little girl's sister and grandfather witnessed the incident but were unable to intervene. During the examination of the crocodiles captured on September 27, human teeth, bones, and a handful of coins were found in one of their stomachs. Local media reported that these remains belonged to Cecelia. Deputy police chief of the Tatau region, Jame Reis, stated, "Two crocodiles were captured on Friday. The first was around 09:30 in the morning at Hulu Sungai Sap, weighing 1.2 tons, and the second was captured the same day at 13:20, weighing 1.3 tons." The found human remains were sent to the forensic laboratories of the Malaysian Chemistry Department for analysis. The captured crocodiles were handed over to forestry experts for further examination. This incident is seen as a tragic example of the conflict between wildlife and human settlements. Authorities are warning the public to be cautious near riverbanks to prevent similar incidents.
