This year's representative of Palestine in the Miss Universe competition is Canadian Nadeen Ayoub, who lives in Dubai. However, the interesting aspect of the situation is that most countries do not recognize Palestine, and it remains unclear whether this title is officially organized.
27-year-old Ayoub is not only holding the title of Miss Palestine but is also recognized as the founder and director of the Miss Palestine Organization behind this title. There is limited information about her on social media and the official website. Born in the USA and raised in Canada, Ayoub is preparing to travel to Thailand for the competition.
On Instagram, she wrote to her 1.1 million followers, "I am proud to walk this path not just as Miss Palestine, but as a voice for those who deserve to be seen and heard," and shared a photo with a sash that reads "Miss Universe Palestine."
Ayoub stated that she received the title in 2022, but postponed her plans to participate in the competition due to the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023. "I wanted the light on stage to be on the suffering Palestinian people, not on me," she said. Her referring to the situation in Gaza as "genocide" sparked controversy in the Israeli press.
Some beauty pageant participants are surprised by her participation in the competition. The Miss Universe Organization states that it carefully evaluates applications and emphasizes that it is an apolitical, inclusive platform.
Ayoub grew up in Canada, studied English Literature and Psychology, taught in Ramallah, and worked on humanitarian aid projects. She also runs Olive Green Academy in Dubai and conducts workshops on influencer marketing.
Mario Bucaro, Vice President of International Relations for the Miss Universe Organization, said, "We are looking forward to seeing Ms. Ayoub on the Miss Universe stage, showcasing the beauty, talent, and resilience of her people."
