CHP Chairman Özgür Özel visited Ahmet Özer, who was suspended from his position as the Mayor of Esenyurt after being arrested for the crime of "being a member of the armed terrorist organization PKK/KCK," along with Osman Kavala, Tayfun Kahraman, and Can Atalay, who were sentenced in the Gezi Park case, as well as the imprisoned lawyer Selçuk Kozağaçlı. ÖZGÜR ÖZEL'S VISIT TO AHMET ÖZERAfter a visit lasting approximately 3.5 hours at the Marmara Closed Penal Institution, Özel stated to the press that Ahmet Özer, who has been detained for 51 days, has been a member of the CHP for 11 years. Özel noted that an indictment has not yet been prepared for Özer, saying, "A prosecutor, who is expected to write the indictment, is called 'fast prosecutor' with English nicknames and boasts about writing an indictment for a case of 200 people in four days, has not been able to write an indictment for a case of one person for 50 days. They cannot write it because they are asking him to write something that does not exist." Özel explained that the phone calls and HTS records of Ahmet Özer from the time he was arrested on January 1, 2012, have been examined by the prosecutor's office, stating, "They have selected 12 people who have committed crimes in the past and may have connections with any organization, and they are trying to fabricate crimes from those 12 people." Özel argued that the content of the conversations with the mentioned 12 people does not constitute a crime, adding that Ahmet Özer has a relationship with the DEM Party but has never deviated from legitimate political grounds. "HE CANDIDATED FROM CHP WHEN HE COULDN'T IMPRESS DEM"Özel made striking statements regarding Ahmet Özer's membership in the CHP. Özel said: "While Ahmet Özer was an administrator in DEHAP, he sought support for a parliamentary candidacy. He thought about whether to run for parliament 12 years ago. He saw that he couldn't get any response and applied to the CHP. He couldn't be from the CHP either. But he has been a member of the CHP for 12 years. Ahmet Özer is like this. He has a relationship with the DEM Party but has never deviated from legitimate political grounds. He saw that he couldn't be a candidate in DEM. I say this in quotes. When he couldn't impress DEM, he came and became a candidate from the CHP."
