WHO IS MUHAMMED SHIYA AL-SUDANI?

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shiya al-Sudani was born on March 4, 1970, in Baghdad. Coming from a Shia Arab family with roots in Maysan province, Sudani lost his father and close relatives, who were regime opponents during Saddam Hussein's era. Sudani studied agricultural sciences at Baghdad University and completed a master's degree in project management.

After 2003, Sudani began to take on public duties and held various administrative positions, including the governorship of Maysan. He entered the cabinet as Minister of Human Rights in 2010 and later held important positions such as Minister of Labor and Social Affairs.

After a long period of political crises in Iraq, Mohammed Shiya al-Sudani took office as Prime Minister on October 27, 2022, with the approval of parliament, and has focused on combating corruption, economic reforms, and regional cooperation since the day he took office. Sudani aims to establish close relations, especially with Turkey, in economic and security areas, including the "Development Road Project."
