In the capital of Bulgaria, Sofia, a protest was held against the country's decision to switch to the euro at the beginning of 2026. The demonstrators called for the government to resign.

The Bulgarian government's decision regarding the euro has stirred the country. A protest against the decision was organized by the anti-European Union and pro-Russia Vızrajdane (Revival) Party in the capital Sofia. Participants in the protest carried banners that read "Let's protect the Bulgarian Lev," "No to the Euro," and "The government should resign."

CALL FOR GOVERNMENT RESIGNATION

Vızrajdane leader Kostadinov, in his speech at the protest, recalled that the parliament, which made the decision to transition from the national currency lev to the euro, rejected the proposal to put this decision to a referendum, demanding the government's resignation.

Stating that the Eurozone has collapsed, Kostadinov said, "The message is clear: Resign. The resignation of this government is to protect Bulgaria and the Bulgarian lev."

"WE ARE BOARDING THE TITANIC"

Kostadinov stated, "France, the second-largest economy in the Eurozone, is technically bankrupt. Germany is experiencing stagnation, and Italy is facing both stagnation and inflation at the same time. The first, second, and third largest economies of the Eurozone are collapsing right before our eyes. We are boarding the Titanic."

Kostadinov announced that they would hold another protest on September 18, saying, "The protest is to bring down the government. The government must go. This is what we will say, and this protest is just the beginning of the process." While police and gendarmerie forces took extensive security measures, the demonstration ended with a march in the city center.
