Eren Uzuner (35), who shot and killed Fatma Özdemir (27), with whom he had a platonic love, and his friend Barkın Perçin (34), as well as injuring three others including one police officer, was sentenced to two life sentences with aggravated circumstances and 39 years in prison. In his final statement, Uzuner claimed that he was being manipulated and that his mind was being read through artificial intelligence.
In Tekirdağ, Eren Uzuner, who worked as a driver at a home goods sales store, saw Fatma Özdemir, whom he had a platonic love for, sitting with his friend Barkın Perçin in front of a tea house near the workplace on October 4, 2024, on Hükümet Street in the Süleymanpaşa district. Uzuner approached Özdemir and Perçin, who were sitting on stools, and opened fire with the gun he was carrying. Fatma Özdemir and Barkın Perçin were injured by the bullets that hit their bodies.
INJURED ONE OF THE POLICE OFFICERS Eren Uzuner, after returning to the store with the weapon in his hand, shot and injured his female coworker N.Ç.K. and S.D. Uzuner then got into the store's delivery vehicle and fled. While escaping, he injured one of the police officers who stopped his vehicle. Among the injured taken to the hospital, Özdemir and Perçin lost their lives.
APPEARED IN COURT FOR THE DECISION HEARING TODAY Eren Uzuner, who was arrested, was charged with 'intentional murder' and faced two aggravated life sentences, as well as charges of 'attempted intentional murder.' Today, Uzuner appeared for the decision hearing at the Tekirdağ 2nd High Criminal Court. The detained defendant Uzuner connected to the hearing via SEGBİS from the prison where he was held. The relatives of Fatma Özdemir and Barkın Perçin, as well as the lawyers of the parties, were present in the courtroom.
"THEY READ MY MIND WITH ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE" During his defense, the defendant Eren Uzuner asked the court whether all evidence had been collected. After the panel warned him to only make a defense, Uzuner requested that the evidence be read in court, claiming that he was being played with and that his mind was read through artificial intelligence. Uzuner stated, "They constantly played with my emotions, they read my mind with artificial intelligence and sell my rebellion against God to singers. They mock me in their clips. They are trying to drive me crazy; I asked many times why you are playing with my emotions? Do you want to drive me crazy? They swore that there was nothing like that."
The father of Fatma Özdemir, Kemal Özdemir, recounted his daughter's childhood and requested the heaviest punishment for the defendant. Özdemir said, "I raised my child with great difficulties, I suffered so much in prison. May God not make anyone experience the pain of losing a child; my daughter used to sleep in my arms until she was 10 years old. I want the heaviest punishment to be given."
THE COURT RENDERED ITS DECISION The court sentenced the defendant Eren Uzuner to aggravated life imprisonment for the 'intentional murder' of Fatma Özdemir, life imprisonment for the 'intentional murder' of Barkın Perçin, 34 years for 'attempted intentional murder' of 2 people, and 2 years for 'intentional injury' of 1 person. The defendant was also sentenced to 2 years for 'damaging public property' and 1 year for 'possessing an unlicensed firearm.'
