With the clarification of the new minimum wage, the most striking headline on the employer side has been that the cost per employee has reached 40,000 Turkish Lira. While the net wage has been set at 28,075 TL, when considering premiums and incentives, especially in the service sector, the monthly burden on employers has exceeded the 40,000 TL threshold.

The marathon for the new minimum wage, which directly concerns millions of workers and indirectly affects the entire society, has come to an end. The discussions of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which started on December 12 and continued on December 18, concluded after the third and final meeting.

MINIMUM WAGE IS 28,075 TL

Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan announced that the net minimum wage, effective from January 1, is 28,075 TL. The minimum wage support provided to employers has also been increased to 1,270 TL. With the new regulation, the gross minimum wage has risen to 33,030 TL.

UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS AND SEVERANCE PAY ARE ALSO DIRECTLY AFFECTED

The 27% increase will not only affect employees but will also directly impact the calculations of unemployment benefits and severance pay. Since unemployment benefits are determined to be between 40% and 80% of the gross minimum wage, there will be an increase in this item as well. Similarly, the cap for severance pay will be calculated based on 33,030 TL and will rise by 27% in the new year.

COST TO EMPLOYERS HAS INCREASED

The impact of the new minimum wage on employers was commented on by SGK Expert Emin Yılmaz. Speaking on CNN Türk live broadcast, Yılmaz provided evaluations regarding the cost of the new minimum wage of 28,075 TL to employers. He reminded that the previous net minimum wage was 22,104 TL, stating that with the new figures, the gross wage has risen to 33,030 TL.

Yılmaz pointed out that the employer's cost varies by sector when incentives are deducted, stating that in the manufacturing sector, with a 5% premium incentive, the cost reaches 39,223 TL, while in the service sector, after a 2% incentive, it reaches 40,214 TL.
