News has arrived that millions of workers are paying attention to. The net minimum wage for 2026 has been set at 28,075 TL. This amount is significantly below the expectations of political party leaders. The highest minimum wage proposal expressed by the party leaders was 46,000 TL, while the lowest expectation was at the level of 33,000 TL.
A new minimum wage has been determined, which directly affects 7 million employees and indirectly concerns the entire society.
27% INCREASE IN MINIMUM WAGE
The third meeting of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which is working to set the new minimum wage, has concluded. After the meeting, Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan announced that the minimum wage, which will be valid in 2026, has been increased by 27% to a gross amount of 33,030 TL and a net amount of 28,075 TL.
BELOW LEADERS' EXPECTATIONS
The newly determined figure fell below the expectations of political party leaders. The highest minimum wage proposal expressed by the party leaders was 46,000 TL, while the lowest expectation was at the level of 33,000 TL.
HATIMOĞULLARI: SHOULD BE AT LEAST 46,000 TL
Co-Chair of the DEM Party Tülay Hatimoğulları stated that their expectation is 46,000 TL, saying, "The starting wage, which is the minimum wage, should be removed from being an average wage. The minimum wage should be updated at least to half of the poverty line according to inflation increases throughout the year."
ERBAKAN HAD STATED "45,000 TL"
Fatih Erbakan, the Chairman of the New Welfare Party, argued in a statement regarding the issue that the minimum wage should be 45,000 TL.
ÖZEL: WE WON'T ACCEPT BELOW 39,000 TL
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel announced his party's expectation at a rally, stating, "Today our proposal is that the minimum wage should be 39,000 TL. But would 39,000 TL minimum wage be enough for a worker in Merter? It wouldn't be enough, but it would provide some relief. If one says, 'I will go bankrupt, I can't pay,' and another says, 'I can't live on this salary,' the state will have to intervene and take a significant part of this burden off the employer's shoulders. We once again state before history: The deserved salary is at least 39,000; we won't accept anything below that."
DAVUTOĞLU: MUST NOT BE BELOW 35,000 TL
Ahmet Davutoğlu, the Chairman of the Future Party, who announced the minimum wage proposal, stated, "Let me say without going into the details of the calculation; the minimum wage should not be below 40,000 gross and 35,000 net."
LOWEST FIGURE FROM DESTİCİ AND BABACAN
The figure mentioned by Ali Babacan, the Chairman of the DEVA Party, and Mustafa Destici, the Chairman of the Great Unity Party, has been recorded as the lowest expectation for the minimum wage. Both leaders expressed that the increase rate should be 50% and proposed that the minimum wage should be raised to at least 33,000 TL.
