US President Biden made statements regarding the latest situation in Gaza and Israel's new proposal for ceasefire negotiations at a press conference held at the White House. Biden stated that Israel has presented a new ceasefire proposal consisting of 3 stages, and in the first stage, it envisages Israel's withdrawal from settlements in Gaza during a 6-week ceasefire period and the release of some of the hostages held by both sides. BLINKEN CALLED MINISTER FIDAN FROM THE PLANEWhile Biden said "It is time for this war to end" regarding the attacks that resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of innocent civilians, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken called Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who has been making serious efforts since the beginning of the process to stop the bloodshed in the region, immediately after this statement. It was learned that Blinken, who called Minister Fidan from the plane while returning from Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, to Washington, said "This proposal is a great chance to end the war in Gaza. Hamas should accept the offer." INITIAL REACTIONS TO THE CEASEFIRE PROPOSAL- Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that he supports the ceasefire proposal in Gaza and said that the offer is a peace opportunity that all parties should evaluate.
- Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, strongly hoped that the proposal would lead to an agreement for a lasting peace between the parties.
- German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said that the proposal provides "a ray of hope," while EU President Ursula von der Leyen evaluated the offer as a "balanced and realistic" approach to end the war.
HAMAS WELCOMES THE PROPOSALIn response to US President Joe Biden's statement that Israel has offered a new ceasefire proposal to Hamas through Qatar, Hamas issued a written statement stating that they view the items mentioned in Biden's speech positively and that "Hamas is ready to approach any offer that is based on a permanent ceasefire, complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, reconstruction of Gaza, and the return of displaced people to their homes, and that Israel declares its commitment" in a positive and constructive manner. The statement used the expressions "This attitude of the US and the consensus that the war in Gaza must end in the international and regional arena is the result of the prayers of our people and the heroic resistance forces." THE FIRST COMMENT FROM THE ISRAELI SIDEIn a statement made by the Israeli Prime Minister's Office after Biden's speech, it was stated that "the Israeli government is united in its desire for our prisoners to return as soon as possible and is working towards this goal. Therefore, the Prime Minister has authorized the negotiation team to submit a draft to achieve this goal." The statement emphasized that Netanyahu insists that the attacks will not end until all prisoners are returned and all objectives are achieved.
