The European Union announced that over 1,000 citizens from 17 member countries have been evacuated from the Middle East through the Civil Protection Mechanism. The evacuation processes accelerated due to the attacks by the US and Israel on Iran.

The European Union (EU) Commission spokesperson Eva Hrncirova reported that so far, 17 member countries have activated the Union's Civil Protection Mechanism and more than 1,000 citizens have been evacuated from the Middle East.

Hrncirova answered journalists' questions at the daily press conference in Brussels regarding the evacuation efforts for EU citizens stranded in the region due to the tensions that began with the attacks by the US and Israel on Iran.

"MORE THAN 1,000 EU CITIZENS HAVE BEEN EVACUATED"

Hrncirova stated that 17 member countries have requested support from the EU Civil Protection Mechanism for evacuation operations, and in this context, 10 flights have been made from the Middle East to Europe, and these will continue.

Hrncirova mentioned that more than 1,000 EU citizens have returned to their countries with these flights. This number does not include the evacuation flights organized by member countries without the EU's Civil Protection Mechanism.

US-ISRAEL ATTACKS ON IRAN

Israel and the US launched a military attack on Iran on February 28 while negotiations were ongoing between Tehran and the Washington administration.

Iran responded with attacks on targets it identified in some regional countries, including Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Bahrain, where US bases are located, in addition to Israel.

In the US-Israel attacks, Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as well as many high-ranking officials, were killed.

Iran's Health Ministry spokesperson Hossein Kermanpur announced that 926 people have lost their lives in the US-Israel attacks.
