Bernd Kebbel, a 59-year-old German businessman known for his support of efforts to protect desert lions in Namibia, was killed by a lion while going to the bathroom at a safari camp at night.
59-year-old German businessman Bernd Kebbel was staying at a luxury safari camp with his wife Conny and friends. During the night, Kebbel stepped out of the tent set up on his vehicle to relieve himself and became the target of a lion roaming nearby. Kebbel, who was severely injured during the attack, lost his life at the scene due to a bite wound to his neck.
"THE LION COULD NOT BE DISTANCED"
Namibia's Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism spokesperson Ndeshipanda Hamunyela stated, "Unfortunately, we regret to confirm that Mr. Kebbel has lost his life." Namibia Police spokesperson Immanuel Iiduwa explained that other campers made efforts to drive the lion away, but Kebbel could not be saved due to the fatal injury he sustained.
Kebbel was known for his financial contributions, particularly for the protection of desert lions in Namibia.
