According to a statement from the National Park Service, Miller fell while climbing the steep granite face of El Capitan alone using a rope system. Although teams that arrived at the scene immediately intervened, the young athlete could not be saved.
Miller's brother Dylan remembered him by saying, "He felt most alive when he was climbing," adding, "I am the older brother, but he always guided me."
The unfortunate accident occurred when Miller got stuck in the rocks while trying to pull his bags to the summit during the climb, and it was during his attempt to rescue them that the incident happened. Those moments were captured and shared with viewers during a live broadcast on TikTok.
His mother, Jeanine Girard-Moorman, expressed her grief in an emotional statement on social media, saying, "I lost my extraordinary son Balin. My heart is shattered into millions of pieces. I don’t know how to live without him."
Born in Alaska, Miller had achieved significant accomplishments worldwide despite his short life. In June, he gained recognition by completing the challenging Slovak Direct route on Mount McKinley in 56 hours and had also made remarkable climbs in Patagonia and Canada.
Famous climber Clint Helander remembered Miller, stating, "The achievements he showed in the last six months are among the most impressive climbing series I have ever seen."
After the news of the young athlete's death, his followers shared condolence messages on social media. One user said, "He was so young, but he lived life to the fullest," while another expressed their sorrow by saying, "He had reached the summit; we were all so excited. It’s such a great injustice."
