In France, more than 150 tons of gold, estimated to be worth around 4 billion euros, has been discovered on land owned by farmer Michel Dupont. Due to the fact that underground resources belong to the state, the French farmer will not receive a single cent. Protesting this decision, the farmer said, "The state will take everything; it should compensate me."
A 52-year-old couple, Michel Dupont, living in the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region of France, noticed yellow shiny stones while examining the soil on their land. The stones that farmer Dupont showed to experts were found to be gold after examination.
"I COULDN'T BELIEVE WHAT I WAS HOLDING"
Dupont said, "I was doing a routine check on my land. Then I saw a strange sparkle. When I dug a little deeper, I couldn't believe what I was holding."
150 TONS OF PURE GOLD
As a result of the research conducted by geologists called to the area, it was determined that there is more than 150 tons of pure gold worth an estimated 4 billion euros beneath the field. Authorities stated that this is "one of the largest gold discoveries in the country in recent years."
THE FUTURE OF THE GOLD IS UNCERTAIN
Due to laws stating that underground resources belong to the state, the French farmer was not allowed to extract the gold. While economists noted that operating the gold mine could provide employment for hundreds of people and attract significant investments, environmentalists warned about risks such as water pollution, increased traffic, and deforestation. While the future of the gold on the land remains uncertain, it was stated that the French government is conducting comprehensive assessments and has not yet made a decision.
"THE STATE SHOULD COMPENSATE ME"
French farmer Michel stated, "I just want justice to be served. The state will take everything; they should compensate me. The law provides for compensation, at 0.5% of the value."
