The first funeral ceremony for Hamas leader Haniyeh, who was killed in the assassination, was held in Tehran, the capital of Iran. After the funeral prayer led by Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei, tens of thousands of people attending the ceremony chanted "Death to Israel and the US" in unison.

After the funeral ceremony, Ismail Haniyeh's body will be taken to Doha, the capital of Qatar, to be buried. In a statement by Hamas, it was stated that "Ismail Haniyeh's body will be transported to Doha after the funeral ceremony in Tehran. He will be buried in the capital of Qatar on Friday."

HANIYEH'S ASSASSINATION IN IRAN

Haniyeh was in Tehran to attend the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian President, Ebrahim Raisi. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps announced in the early hours of July 31 that Haniyeh had been killed in an attack on his residence in Tehran. Haniyeh was elected as the head of Hamas' Political Bureau on May 6, 2017, replacing Khaled Meshaal.
