United Nations Secretary-General Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric expressed concern over the U.S. attacks on the Houthis in Yemen and called for a de-escalation of tensions in the region.
The United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric stated that they are concerned about the attacks carried out by the United States in areas controlled by the Houthis in Yemen.
UN Spokesperson Dujarric made a written statement regarding the US Army's attacks on the Houthis following the order of US President Donald Trump.
"WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE ATTACKS"
Dujarric stated in his announcement, "We are concerned about the attacks carried out by the US in areas controlled by the Houthis in Yemen, which have reportedly resulted in deaths and injuries. We are also worried about the threats from the Houthis to continue their attacks targeting ships in the Red Sea," he expressed.
Regarding the escalation of tensions in the region, Dujarric called for "maximum restraint and the cessation of all military activities," stating, "Any additional escalation could further increase regional tensions, provoke retaliations that could destabilize Yemen and the region even more, and pose serious risks to the already dire humanitarian situation in the country."
WHAT HAPPENED?
US President Donald Trump announced yesterday on his Truth Social platform account that he had instructed the military to launch a major attack against the Houthis in Yemen.
The Iran-backed Houthis stated that in the airstrikes carried out by the US and the UK on the capital Sana and the northern city of Sada, 31 people, mostly women and children, were killed, and 101 were injured.
The Houthis stated in a statement on March 7 that they had given Israel a 4-day ultimatum to allow aid to enter Gaza, otherwise they would resume naval operations against Israel.
