In Adana, pharmacist Süleyman Kapukaya has established a factory based on the "pelmeni," a type of dumpling he tasted during his vacation, providing employment for 100 women and producing 4.5 tons of dumplings daily. Kapukaya aims to enhance the quality of the dumplings produced by the women workers, further increasing production and employment.
In Adana, pharmacist Süleyman Kapukaya dreamed of entering the production sector while practicing his profession, which he started in 2007.
STARTED PRODUCING AFTER TASTING IT ON VACATION
While on vacation in Alanya, Antalya in 2018, Kapukaya tasted dumplings known as "pelmeni" and conducted research on this flavor. As a result of his research, Kapukaya established a company with his own capital and procured machines, creating the "Pelmen Mantı" brand and starting production with 4 women he employed.
EXPANDED BUSINESS AS DEMAND INCREASED
In 2019, Kapukaya sent 200 kilograms of dumplings produced daily in his workshop located in the central Sarıçam district to chain supermarkets for trial purposes. As the product gained popularity and demand increased, Kapukaya raised the number of employees to 20 and applied to the Social Entrepreneurship, Empowerment, and Adaptation Project (SEECO) conducted by the World Bank, the Ministry of Industry and Technology, and the Çukurova Development Agency in 2024 to further expand his business.
PRODUCING 4.5 TONS DAILY WITH 100 PEOPLE
With the support from the project, Kapukaya purchased new machines and equipment, increasing the number of employees to 100 and began producing 4.5 tons of dumplings daily. Currently, Kapukaya continues to make dumplings with women working in three shifts at his workshop and sends his products to chain supermarkets in different cities.
"WE PLAN TO INCREASE PRODUCTION AND WOMEN EMPLOYMENT"
Süleyman Kapukaya stated that he continues his work in the dumpling workshop without neglecting his pharmacy duties.
Kapukaya explained that he realized his dream and provided employment through the production of dumplings, which he started enjoying during his vacation, saying: "We are a business where housewives walk to work due to the region where we are established. While we previously had around 20 female employees, we now have nearly 100 women employed. The quality of our product comes from the craftsmanship of our women. It is not fully automated production. Therefore, we believe our product is highly appreciated. We plan to produce more and employ more women."
Kapukaya expressed that they continue to make dumplings uninterruptedly by integrating the high hygiene and precision standards brought by his profession into food production.
