In Istanbul, Şükrü Genç, the former mayor of Sarıyer, who was subject to an arrest warrant in an investigation regarding providing financial support to the terrorist organization DHKP/C between 2014 and 2016 and funding the organization through another company, surrendered to the police. He could not be found at his address during an operation conducted yesterday.
The investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Terror Crimes Investigation Bureau revealed that a needs committee (IKOM) was established to meet the needs of the so-called institutions within the terrorist organization DHKP/C and to provide financial support to the organization, and it was determined that the armed leftist terrorist organization was funded through this means.
33 PEOPLE WERE DETAINED
In the investigation carried out on the charges of providing financial support to DHKP/C between 2014-2016 and funding the organization through another company, 33 of the 38 suspects for whom detention orders were issued were captured and detained by the Istanbul Counter-Terrorism Department during operations conducted yesterday in Istanbul, Samsun, Izmir, and Bursa.
HE SURRENDERED LAST NIGHT
While the interrogation procedures of the suspects detained within the scope of the investigation are ongoing at the police, efforts to capture the fugitives are continuing in various ways. It was noted that the former CHP Sarıyer Mayor Şükrü Genç, who could not be found at his address, was out of the city. It was reported that Genç, who appears to be in a "fugitive" status in the investigation file, came to the police station with his lawyer around 10:00 PM and surrendered to the police.
