Journalist Fatih Altaylı has been investigated for allegedly making threatening remarks towards President Tayyip Erdoğan due to statements made in a video published on his YouTube channel.

AT LEAST 5 YEARS IN PRISON SOUGHT

Due to Altaylı's statements, an indictment has been prepared requesting at least 5 years of imprisonment under the charge of "threatening the president."

"INTENT TO COMMUNICATE"

The indictment states that President Erdoğan is the complainant. It includes the analysis of the 48-minute video and the statements made by Altaylı. The indictment explains that the video was publicly shared through press and broadcasting, reaching a wide audience, and that the act in question was clearly carried out with the "intent to communicate."

THREAT TO HIS LIFE

It was emphasized that suspect Fatih Altaylı responded to a question about the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in the video by referring to a so-called historical example of kings being killed or drowned when the people were displeased, thereby threatening that an attack on the President's life would be carried out, thus committing the alleged crime.

HE WAS ARRESTED ON JUNE 22

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had initiated an ex officio investigation against Fatih Altaylı for the crime of "Threatening the President." Altaylı was arrested and sent to prison on June 22.
