The 55-year-old President of the Antalya Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ATSO), Ali Bahar, died in a boating accident on July 19, 2024. The indictment prepared by the Kemer Chief Public Prosecutor's Office requested a prison sentence of 2 to 6 years for M.S.Ç. (60) and Y.C.Ç. (45) on charges of 'causing death by negligence.'

Ali Bahar, the President of the Antalya Organized Industrial Zone and ATSO, set sail on the evening of July 18, 2024, with his boat named 'Alber' and two companions. The trio spent the night at sea and set off to return to the port in the morning. When they approached the marina, a part used for sitting on the boat fell into the water, prompting Ali Bahar to jump in. As his friend M.S.Ç. maneuvered the boat without realizing the situation, Ali Bahar was caught between the motor propellers. After it was realized that Bahar was seriously injured, help was requested from the 112 Emergency Call Center. Following the report, a Coast Guard boat was directed to the area. Ali Bahar was quickly brought to shore and then taken by ambulance to a private hospital in Kemer. It was determined that Ali Bahar had severe injuries and cuts on most of his body, and his heart had stopped, with significant blood loss. Despite all efforts, Bahar could not be saved. His funeral was held at ATSO and he was buried at Uncalı Cemetery.

HIS WIFE FILED A COMPLAINT

The indictment regarding the boating accident was accepted by the Kemer Criminal Court of First Instance. In her statement to the prosecutor's office, Ali Bahar's wife, Şebnem Bahar, said, "My husband has had a maritime license for many years and is an experienced sailor. The shock I experienced on the day I learned about the incident caused my blood pressure to rise, and although it was written in my hastily taken statement that I was not a complainant, I learned that the information given to me at the time of the incident was completely different from the information in the file. I am a complainant against M.S.Ç. and Y.C.Ç., who were on the boat that day, as well as any other individuals who will be identified later."

"THE MEETING WAS PLANNED"

M.S.Ç. noted that he previously described the moment of the meeting as a 'chance encounter,' stating, "However, this is not true. Due to Ali's status as a well-known person in society, he wanted me to be there to protect the positions of the individuals, families, and Ali himself, and to facilitate explanations in case of an adverse situation. Y.C.Ç. picked me up from the address described to me, and we arrived at Kemer G-Marina around 19:00. Then we went to Phaselis Bay to anchor for the night."

When we arrived at the boat, Ali Bey was alone. We set sail from the marina around 19:00-19:30. They consumed a lot of alcohol because the atmosphere was very enjoyable. I couldn't drink much alcohol. Before going to sleep, the three of us swam in the sea together. I lay back on the seat at the back of the boat with my phone in hand and fell asleep."
