In a session at the Turkish Grand National Assembly focused on Gaza, CHP leader Özgür Özel stated that Turkey should send aid from the air. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, on the other hand, noted that air aid leads to death and that assistance is being delivered by land and sea. Fidan also mentioned that President Erdoğan has given his approval, but the planes cannot take off until Jordan's airspace is opened.
The Grand National Assembly of Turkey convened urgently due to the attacks Israel has been carrying out in Gaza for months and the humanitarian crisis that has ensued. Speaking in the General Assembly of the TBMM, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel expressed that Turkey should drop aid to Gaza from the air.
"14-YEAR-OLD MUHAMMED WAS CRUSHED UNDER THE CARGO"
In response to CHP leader Özel's statement, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan clarified why Turkey cannot send air aid to Gaza. Minister Fidan stated that air aid causes death, saying, "It is implied that the government is negligent regarding sending air aid. However, the truth is that aid dropped from the air causes death and does not reach its destination. 14-year-old Muhammed Eid was crushed under the cargo. All aid organizations say that air aid is not safe. Our strongest area is delivering aid. AFAD and the Red Crescent are working day and night, and we are delivering aid through land and sea in cooperation with Egypt," he said.
"OUR AIRPLANES ARE READY, JORDAN MUST OPEN ITS AIRSPACE"
Minister Fidan also stated that although it is not safe for the people in the region, President Erdoğan has approved air aid. He said, "Our President has given us approval on this matter. We have coordinated with Jordan. However, it is not possible for us to enter there without Jordan opening its airspace. We have made several offers; our planes are ready. As soon as we get permission from Jordan, we are in a position to send aid immediately," he stated.
