The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has announced the inflation figures for May, which will constitute the fifth inflation data of the year. Accordingly, inflation increased by 1.53% in May and reached 35.41% on an annual basis.

The change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) (2003=100) in May 2025 was an increase of 1.53% compared to the previous month, an increase of 15.09% compared to the previous December, an increase of 35.41% compared to the same month of the previous year, and an increase of 45.80% based on twelve-month averages.
ANNUAL INCREASE OF 32.87% IN CPI FOR FOOD AND NON-ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES
The annual changes in the three main expenditure groups with the highest weight were as follows: a 32.87% increase in food and non-alcoholic beverages, a 24.59% increase in transportation, and a 67.43% increase in housing. The effects of these main groups on the annual change were 8.25% for food and non-alcoholic beverages, 4.07% for transportation, and 9.34% for housing.
MONTHLY DECREASE OF 0.71% IN CPI FOR FOOD AND NON-ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES
The monthly changes in the three main expenditure groups with the highest weight were as follows: a decrease of 0.71% in food and non-alcoholic beverages, an increase of 2.66% in transportation, and an increase of 2.99% in housing. The effects of these main groups on the monthly change were -0.18% for food and non-alcoholic beverages, 0.40% for transportation, and 0.48% for housing.
As of May 2025, out of the 143 main headings covered in the index (Classification of Individual Consumption by Purpose - COICOP 5-digit Level), there was a decrease in the index of 28 main headings, while there was no change in the index of 4 main headings. An increase was observed in the index of 111 main headings.
ANNUAL INCREASE OF 34.81% AND MONTHLY INCREASE OF 2.25% IN SPECIAL CPI INDEX (B)
Excluding unprocessed food products, energy, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and gold, the change in CPI in May 2025 was an increase of 2.25% compared to the previous month, an increase of 15.24% compared to the previous December, an increase of 34.81% compared to the same month of the previous year, and an increase of 45.00% based on twelve-month averages.
