Due to the melting of snow and intermittent rain in the Şarkışla district of Sivas, the Kızılırmak River overflowed. The road to the village of Sarıkaya, which is connected to the district, was closed to traffic, and the lands by the river were submerged.
In the city, which has seen the highest average rainfall in recent years, the snow in the higher areas has started to melt. The melting of the snow and the intermittent rain have increased the flow of many streams and rivers.
KIZILIRMAK OVERFLOWED
The Kızılırmak River, which is formed by the merging of streams and is the longest river that originates and flows into the sea within Turkey's own borders, has also reached its highest water level in recent times.
VILLAGE ROAD CLOSED TO TRAFFIC
In the section passing through the village of Sarıkaya, which is connected to the Şarkışla district, the river overflowed. The waters closed the village road to traffic, and the lands by the river were submerged. It was reported that the road has been closed for about 10 days in the region.
"IT HAS NEVER OVERFLOWED LIKE THIS IN 13 YEARS"
Alparslan Özmen, who lives in Şarkışla, said, "I have been residing in Şarkışla for 50 years. The Kızılırmak has never overflowed like this in 13 years. This is the first time such a flood has occurred. I came to see it in this state. We really liked it. I haven't seen it flowing this full in a long time," he said.
