While the trial regarding the stabbing murder of 15-year-old Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi in Kadıköy is ongoing, the family's lawyer, Rezan Epözdemir, stated that he has received death threats, saying, "In the last week, I have been receiving messages like 'We will cut off your head. We will also tear Yasemin apart, be smart.' The value of a lawyer in Turkey is nonexistent. We have seen this once again."
Turkey's eyes and ears are on the developments in the case of the murder of Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi. Two defendants under the age of 18, who are being tried in the case, appeared before the judge for the fourth time, and the hearing was postponed to October 2. The lawyer of the Minguzzi family, Rezan Epözdemir, expressed his outrage at the messages he received.
Epözdemir, who stated that he received death threats, said: "You will threaten the lawyer of the victim's family, threaten his wife with death, send messages, call, cover your face, threaten with a shotgun, the prosecution will identify and refer for arrest, but the peace criminal court will release him with judicial control."
"WE ARE BEING THREATENED WITH DEATH"
I am calling out to the President of the Justice Commission from here. Let's see if the Peace Criminal Court has released this perpetrator or not. I am also calling out to the Minister of Justice; we are the representatives of the victim's family here, we are fighting for justice. We are being threatened with death, our spouses are being threatened with death, our family peace is being disturbed. In the last week, I and my wife have been receiving messages like 'We can cut off your head. We can also tear Yasemin apart, be smart.' One of the perpetrators is identified, the chief prosecutor does what is necessary and refers for arrest, but for some reason, the Peace Criminal Court releases the perpetrator."
"IS A LAWYER'S RIGHT TO LIFE SO VALUABLE?"
Epözdemir also lamented, "What really bothers me is that the Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office refers for arrest, but the Peace Criminal Court releases him. This has saddened me greatly, to be honest. Is a lawyer's right to life so worthless?"
