The leader of the 'New Way' group has been announced.

The DEVA Party, the Future Party, and the Felicity Party have united under the name 'New Path'. Celal Mümtaz Akıncı was elected as the group's Chairman.

WHO IS CELAL MÜMTAZ AKINCI?

Celal Mümtaz Akıncı served as the Bar Association President in his hometown of Afyonkarahisar for nearly 10 years. During his tenure, Akıncı exhibited a collaborative management style with individuals from various backgrounds and viewpoints. Later, he received the highest votes in an election held by Bar Association Presidents, becoming one of the three candidates sent to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), and in 2010, he was elected as a member of the Constitutional Court (AYM) by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Akıncı served as a member of the AYM for nearly 12 years and was then elected as the President of the Court of Jurisdictional Disputes.

SIGNED HISTORICAL DECISIONS

Akıncı played a significant role in critical cases that have almost become symbols of the quest for rights and justice in the public eye. Some of the decisions he signed are as follows:

• He voted in favor of "Violation of Rights" in the case involving Can Dündar and Erdem Gül.
• He opposed the Constitutional Court's "Multiple Bar" decision and issued a dissenting opinion.
• In the case related to Cumhuriyet Newspaper, he voted against the Constitutional Court's decision, issuing a dissenting opinion.
• In the application regarding Ethem Sarısülük, who died during the Gezi events, he voted against the AYM's decision that stated, "A fine of 15,000 TL is proportional to the outcome of the incident."
• He was among those who wrote a dissenting opinion against the Constitutional Court's decision regarding Osman Kavala.
• He was one of the signatories of the decision stating that "freedom of expression was violated" concerning Ayşe Çelik, known as Ayşe teacher.
• He signed the decisions regarding Mehmet Altan's "right to personal freedom and security" and "violation of freedom of expression and the press."
• In the decision regarding Cumhuriyet Newspaper writer Kadri Gürsel's violation of freedom of expression and personal freedom, he voted for "Violation."
• He was among those who voted against the decision stating that former SHP Minister Fikri Sağlar's freedom of expression was not violated.
• He reacted as the Bar Association President to the April 27 e-notice, the 367 Decision, and the AK Party Closure Case.

In 2022, Akıncı retired from his position and joined the DEVA Party. He was elected as a member of the DEVA Party's Central Decision and Executive Board (GMYK) at the Ordinary Grand Congress held on October 12, 2024, and was appointed as the Deputy Chairman responsible for Legal Affairs.
