The number of people who lost their lives in the fire that broke out yesterday in the 'Wang Fuk Court', an 8-apartment multi-story complex located in the Tai Po area in northern Hong Kong, has risen to 75, including 1 firefighter. Authorities stated that 76 people have been sent to hospitals with injuries, and some of their conditions are critical. It was also reported that among the injured are 11 firefighters.
NEARLY 300 PEOPLE MISSING
It was reported that around 280 people are still unaccounted for, while fire crews have managed to bring the fire under control in all buildings. It has been learned that teams are continuing their efforts to rescue those trapped in the buildings.
3 PEOPLE DETAINED
Security forces have detained two managers and one consulting engineer from the construction company responsible for the renovation works at the complex, which has more than 1900 apartments, on charges of 'manslaughter by negligence' as part of the investigation into the fire.
It was stated that the rapid spread of the fire, which broke out yesterday afternoon, was greatly influenced by the bamboo scaffolding erected on the building facades for renovation works and the plastic foam materials covering the windows. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
