After Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş filed a criminal complaint against former Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Melih Gökçek and AK Party Ankara Deputy Osman Gökçek, a counterattack ensued. Osman Gökçek stirred up the rumors by sharing an allegation. Gökçek claimed that Yavaş was trying to put pressure on the courts with his complaint.
The Mayor of Ankara, Mansur Yavaş, had filed a criminal complaint alleging that former Ankara Mayor Melih Gökçek and AK Party Ankara Deputy Osman Gökçek had met with inspectors who granted permission for an investigation against him and the Inspection Board; claiming that they lobbied against Yavaş during these meetings.
"ATTEMPT TO DISTRACT THE AGENDA, PRESSURE ON THE COURT"
Following Yavaş's move, the first response came from AK Party Ankara Deputy Osman Gökçek.
In a post on his social media account, Gökçek claimed that the criminal complaint aimed to "distract the agenda." He stated that he welcomed the complaint, asserting that Yavaş was trying to pressure the courts.
"I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO IT"
In his post, Gökçek included the following statements:
It is a clear attempt to distract the agenda for Mansur Yavaş, who spent 69 million TL on a concert by Ebru Gündeş that cost 5 million TL in Ankara, to file a criminal complaint against me regarding the concerts. The main aim of Yavaş's initiatives is to pressure the courts. While there are serious questions in the public about how the money of the people of Ankara has been used in various areas, from towers to coffins, and purchases of paper cups, trying to divert attention instead of clarifying these questions cannot save anyone. The question of how public resources have melted away through closed-door, tailored tenders instead of open tenders is also evident, and these questions will find answers before justice sooner or later. I welcome the criminal complaint against me; because Yavaş will be obliged to answer not only to me but also to the questions regarding all these expenditures discussed in the public. I also express here that I am looking forward to Yavaş's explanations regarding the frauds in court.
