The Ministry of Interior announced that Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık, who was arrested as part of the "corruption" investigation against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB), has been suspended from his duties.

BEYLİKDÜZÜ MAYOR SUSPENDED FROM DUTY
In the statement made by the ministry, the following expressions were included: "Mehmet Murat ÇALIK, the Mayor of Beylikdüzü District of Istanbul, has been arrested based on the decision of the Istanbul 6th Peace Criminal Court dated 23.03.2025 and numbered 2025/579 regarding the crimes of Bribery and Membership in an organization established for the purpose of committing a crime; he has been suspended from his duties by the Ministry of Interior as a temporary measure in accordance with Article 127 of the Constitution and Article 47 of the Municipal Law No. 5393."
While IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu was arrested in the corruption investigation, it was decided that he would be tried without detention in the terrorism investigation. According to the statement made by the Ministry of Interior, İmamoğlu and Şişli Mayor Resul Emre Şahan were also suspended from their duties. Additionally, Şişli District Governor Cevdet Ertürkmen was appointed to the Şişli Municipality by the Istanbul Governorship.
