Meteorological engineer Güven Özdemir stated that temperatures in Istanbul will begin to rise, saying, "Starting from Wednesday, with the increasing effect of the sun, temperatures will gradually rise up to 15 degrees by the weekend. Spring weather will come to Istanbul." Özdemir, noting that it will be windy, also reported that temperatures will drop again starting from March 15.
The cold, rainy, and snowy weather prevailing across the country is giving way to sunshine. Güven Özdemir, a faculty member and meteorological engineer at Istanbul Aydın University, stated that the air temperatures in the city will begin to rise, and spring-like weather will be experienced due to the influence of a high-pressure system.
"SPRING WEATHER WILL COME TO ISTANBUL"
Özdemir noted that the weather has been cold and rainy in the city for the past two days due to the influence of a low-pressure system and frontal system entering the region. He mentioned that air temperatures in Istanbul will start to rise from today, saying, "Night temperatures will be around 4 degrees, while daytime temperatures will be at levels of 10 degrees. With the sun's influence increasing from Wednesday, temperatures will gradually rise to 15 degrees by the weekend. Spring weather will come to Istanbul."
THERE WILL BE A SIGNIFICANT TEMPERATURE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NIGHT AND DAY
Özdemir emphasized that despite the increase in air temperature, there will be a significant temperature difference between night and day, stating, "Due to clear weather, heat loss through radiation will increase. This will cause night temperatures to be low and daytime temperatures to be high. In Istanbul, especially in clear weather, the temperature difference can reach 10 degrees. Our citizens need to be cautious about sudden temperature changes."
"THERE MAY BE DISRUPTIONS IN MARITIME TRANSPORT"
Özdemir indicated that north winds will be effective in Istanbul today and tomorrow, stating, "Wind speeds are expected to reach levels of 30 to 50 kilometers per hour. Therefore, special attention should be paid to potential disruptions in maritime transport."
"THOSE WITH RESPIRATORY ISSUES SHOULD TAKE PRECAUTIONS"
Özdemir mentioned that the high-pressure system coming from Central Europe will be effective in the coming days, and this situation could increase air pollution in areas where the wind weakens. He stated, "If the wind calms down in Istanbul, especially during peak traffic hours, air pollution may become noticeable. Individuals with respiratory issues should take precautions."
TEMPERATURES WILL DROP AGAIN
Özdemir noted that temperatures in Istanbul could drop again in the second half of March. He mentioned that temperature fluctuations will occur towards the end of March, stating:
"Temporary cooling waves and precipitation transitions may be observed. In March, the first month of spring, mild weather, cold weather, and rainy weather will be effective, while there is a possibility of intermittent snowfall in Eastern Anatolia and high-altitude areas. With the lengthening of days and the increase in sunshine, temperatures will reach seasonal norms. During days when high pressure is effective, attention should be paid to fog, haze, and frost events, as well as the risk of avalanches in areas with heavy snowfall."
