The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has updated the list of companies that engage in imitation and adulteration after conducting inspections. The most recently published list revealed health-threatening frauds in many products such as meatballs, sausages, cheese, baklava, tea, and honey.
BAKLAVA BRANDS CAUGHT ATTENTION
One of the most striking products on the list was baklava. Food coloring was detected in the products of Hacıoğlu Baklava, operating in Ankara, and Gaziantepli Meşhur Baklavacı Muhsin Usta. In a famous brand's butter in Istanbul, it was determined that oils other than milk fat were used.
FRAUD IN HONEY, SPICES, AND TEA
- In Istanbul, foreign substances were found in the thyme of Hasırcılar Spices.
- In Sakarya, tomato additives were found in the red pepper of Ekim Spices.
- In Istanbul, Ankara, and Konya, imitation and adulteration were detected in various brands of strained flower honey.
- In Rize, food coloring was found in Özen Çay Gold Rize Tea.
SEED OIL IN OLIVE OIL
During inspections in Aydın and İzmir, it was found that many brands mixed seed oil or used low-quality oil in their extra virgin olive oil.
POULTRY AND OFFAL IN MEAT PRODUCTS
Inspections revealed that minced meat, meatballs, and sausages sold in some butchers and restaurants contained poultry meat and offal (heart, gizzard). In Istanbul, "mechanically separated poultry meat" was found in chicken sausage, while offal mixture was detected in meatballs in Antalya.
STARCH AND VEGETABLE OIL IN DAIRY PRODUCTS
In productions in Ankara, Hatay, and Konya, it was determined that vegetable oil and starch were used in products such as processed cheese, teleme, and butter, and some butters did not contain sheep's milk.
