The mother of the siblings who lost their lives in the fire in Izmir did not go out to collect scrap that day.

The sad news coming from Selçuk district of İzmir deeply affected all of Turkey. A mother went out to collect scrap metal, locking the door on her five young children. During the times when the mother was not at home, a fire broke out due to the electric heater tipping over, and the five siblings lost their lives due to smoke inhalation. The mother was taken into custody after the tragic incident. She was released under judicial control after being brought to court. The aunt of the five small children blamed the mother, saying, 'Why is this woman still outside?'

TO PREVENT HER FROM TAKING DRUGS...

The aunt, who gave an interview to Ekol TV, stated: I am the aunt of the children. They already have one aunt. I live in İzmir, not in Selçuk. But I always tried to support them from here. I couldn't be there with them. I was sending financial support every three days because she constantly asked for it. I couldn't resist the children. I know she would use that money to buy drugs, but I couldn't resist the children. I sent it thinking she might buy them bread. My husband was taking supplies; we weren't in favor of giving a lot of money. I was sending small amounts to prevent her from taking drugs. My husband always shopped and sent things. He would buy diapers, baby formula, food, and drinks. They would always run to him and hug him when he visited.

"MOTHER IS A DRUG ADDICT"

The mother is a drug addict. If my sister didn't use drugs, she wouldn't. My sister, how can I explain it to you, was living in the mountains; we had sheep, we are not a very poor family, thank God. My mother passed away, and we inherited something from there. We bought four sheep for her. They have no jobs; we wanted them to do sheep farming, small livestock farming. This woman goes there and finds drugs, and since that day, she has been hooked. That's how it started.

"SHE HIDES BEHIND POVERTY"

I didn't support their marriage, but I met her mother because my brother wanted to. Then we got married. That house is a brand new house; it's not a shack. We had a house in Selçuk; we sold it and built a garden house. That woman is the one who made that house look like a shack by putting up those boards because she hides behind scrap collecting. She hides behind poverty to get help. There are so many people who help. These children should not have to live in such misery. The money always went to other places; she gave it to someone else.

"SHE WASN'T GOING TO COLLECT SCRAP, SHE WAS GOING TO STEAL"

She wasn't going to collect scrap; she was going to steal. There are camera recordings, and people are saying so. She was stealing motor parts from the industry.

HOW DID THE 5 CHILDREN LOSE THEIR LIVES?

There was a fire 25 days ago. There was a roof next to the house that was harboring an unknown woman we didn't know. She had set up a table and a computer; the woman was staying there because she had nowhere to go. She shouldn't stay; an unknown person should go to a shelter and stay there. Every time I talked about this, I felt bad. The firefighters came during that fire. A little smoke had entered the house. The police came. In this incident, the children were not taken. This was not the first time. She was constantly locking the door and leaving. She had removed the doorknob, so there was no lock; the children couldn't open it or escape. She came back after 20 minutes; it was a short time. If she had turned off the heater, they wouldn't have frozen or died. When she came back, she could have turned off the heater.

Don't let unknown people into your home; you have daughters, you have babies, we hear so many things. They could be abused or something could happen. I was always living with my heart in my mouth.

When social security comes to them, she is a person capable of deceiving them as well. She says she is cleaning, and she says she will take care of them; it's all a story. She uses the children. Which mother would use her children?
