The 3-day consultation camp organized by the AK Party in Kızılcahamam has ended. The camp, attended by party management, members of parliament, and cabinet members, saw intense interest in the "common sense" sessions. According to the information obtained, the most discussed topic in the sessions was the economy.

MINIMUM WAGE SHOULD BE INCREASED TWICE

According to a report in Türkiye newspaper; members of parliament pointed out that the gap between the minimum wage and civil servant salaries has widened, stating that steps should be taken to close this gap. Among the proposals, it was emphasized that the minimum wage should be restructured to be increased twice a year like civil servant salaries.

THE MOST COMPLAINTS ARE ABOUT THE ECONOMY

The field observations reported by the members of parliament revealed that the public is most complaining about high rent prices, the cost of living, and rising inflation. Some MPs emphasized that it is no longer possible to live on the minimum wage, especially in large cities, stating that the government needs to develop faster and structural solutions regarding this issue.

CHP HAD SUBMITTED A BILL FOR THE MINIMUM WAGE TO BE 30,000 TL

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel stated in a recent speech that they submitted a bill to the Parliament for an increase in the minimum wage. Özgür Özel, who mentioned that they proposed a bill for the minimum wage to be 30,000 TL, said, "We are waiting."

Özel also mentioned that they submitted a bill for a flat increase for retirees, saying, "They are keeping retirees below the poverty line. Every retiree should receive a minimum wage; we submitted the bill, and we are waiting."

MINISTER IŞIKHAN HAD CLOSED THE DOOR TO INTERIM INCREASES

Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan stated in May that it was too early to discuss an interim increase for minimum wage earners, saying, "It is too early to talk about an interim increase regarding the minimum wage. We will make the necessary assessment when the time comes."

THE LAST INCREASE IN MINIMUM WAGE WAS IN JANUARY

With the last regulation made in January 2025, the net minimum wage became 22,104 TL, but it was announced that there would be no increase in the second half of the year. This situation led to a rapid erosion of the purchasing power of minimum wage earners against inflation. On the other hand, civil servant salaries are increased every 6 months with inflation adjustments. This practice has made the income gap between civil servants and minimum wage earners even more pronounced during the same period.
