Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated, "The penalty for failing to comply with a stop warning, which was 2,167 TL, needed an update; now it will be 47,000 TL. The driver's license will be confiscated for 60 days, and the vehicle will be banned from traffic."
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya presented a study at the Motobike Istanbul Fair that closely concerns motorcycle riders. Accordingly, with the increasing number of motorcyclists, the number of accidents is also rising, and drivers who violate traffic rules on two-wheeled vehicles will face new penalties.
THE FINE FOR NOT WEARING A HELMET WILL BE 1500 TL
According to a report in Habertürk, the current fine for not wearing a helmet, which is 993 TL, will be 1500 TL for both the driver and any passenger (if applicable) if detected for the first time. If repeated within a year, this fine will increase to 3000 TL. If the helmet is not used three times or more, the fine will be 9000 TL.
47 THOUSAND TL FINE FOR ACROBATIC MOVES
A fine of 47 thousand TL will be imposed for acrobatic moves such as "wheelies" in moving traffic, as well as for racing in moving traffic. In addition to the detection of acrobatic moves, the driver's license will be confiscated for 60 days. In the case of racing, this period will extend to 2 years. The current fine for riding a motorcycle without a driver's license, which is 18,677 TL, will remain unchanged. If a person whose driver's license has been temporarily revoked or canceled drives a vehicle, the fine will be 186,000 TL.
PENALTY FOR NOT OBEYING THE STOP SIGNAL IS INCREASING
The penalty for not obeying the stop signal and fleeing will increase from 2,167 TL to 47,000 TL, and the driver's license will be confiscated for 60 days.
THE FINE FOR RUNNING A RED LIGHT WILL BE 5 THOUSAND TL
The current fine for running a red light, which is 2,167 TL, will be 5,000 TL. If repeated within a year, the fine will increase by 5,000 TL for each subsequent violation. Starting from the third violation, the driver's license will also be confiscated along with the monetary fine. The confiscation period will be 30 days for the third violation, 60 days for the fourth, and 90 days for the fifth. If a sixth violation is detected within a year, the driver's license will be revoked. From the third repetition onwards, a psychotechnical assessment and eye examination will also be required.
