Plaksin, 37, had administrative proceedings initiated against him for refusing a health check related to narcotic substance use. The court hearing was planned to take place hours after the accident in the city of Irkutsk.
According to local sources, Plaksin's flight schedule did not prevent him from attending the court. If found guilty, he could face up to 15 days in jail or a fine. His lawyer claimed that his client had not used any substances and that the case was opened by mistake, but he refrained from providing details.
The An-24 aircraft belonging to Angara Airlines was a model with a 50-year history. The plane, which took off from Blagovechensk, crashed into a mountain due to heavy rain and low clouds while approaching Tynda Airport in the Amur region. Contact with the aircraft was suddenly lost during its second attempt to land. The wreckage was found in a mountainous area 16 kilometers from the airport during aerial search operations.
Investigations at the crash site revealed that the plane was completely burned. A rescue team of 25 people walked for hours in difficult terrain conditions to reach the wreckage area.
Among the deceased were captain pilot Vyacheslav Logvinov (61), chest surgeon Dr. Leonid Maizel (71), flight attendant Anastasia Bessmertnaya (43), the doctor couple Galina and Alexey Naidyonov along with their 14-year-old granddaughter, and many passengers.
In footage taken seconds before the disaster, the plane was seen flying at low altitude under light rain, and everything appeared normal.
Marina Avalyan, who was on the passenger list but did not board the plane, stated that she canceled her trip due to her granddaughter's illness, saying, "My granddaughter saved my life."
After the accident, the Russian Transport Investigation Committee launched an investigation into the incident. Preliminary findings suggest that the cause of the crash may be bad weather conditions and pilot error.
