One of the world's most popular e-commerce sites, Temu, is raising alarms over its products. The President of the Turkish Shoe Industrialists Association, İçten, stated that they tested the shoes sold on Temu and found carcinogenic and allergenic substances in 50% of them. İçten also mentioned that they shared the results with Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz and Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat.
The President of the Turkish Shoe Industrialists Association (TASD), Berke İçten, announced that half of the shoes ordered through Temu were found to contain carcinogenic substances and heavy metals.
"THE MEASURE IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER"
İçten stated, "As an association, we purchased shoes from Temu. We sent them to the laboratory and had them analyzed. Approximately 50% of them were found to contain very high levels of carcinogenic and allergenic substances, as well as heavy metals. We shared these results with Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz and Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat. We explained that there is a serious risk to consumers. The Minister said that a new regulation on this issue would be made soon. We believe that the measure is just around the corner," he expressed.
GENERATING 200 MILLION DOLLARS IN REVENUE
It was also announced that Temu generates approximately 200 million dollars in annual revenue from shoe sales alone in Turkey.
THE IMPACT OF FOREIGN E-COMMERCE SITES ON TURKEY
Not only Temu, but also the overall economic burden of foreign e-commerce sites in Turkey is increasing. Last year, the turnover of these platforms was recorded at 43 billion lira. It is projected that this figure will reach 83 billion lira by 2025.
According to the report of the Electronic Commerce Operators Association (ETİD), foreign-origin sites could cause a loss of 500 billion lira in added value in Turkey this year.
