Recently, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his intention to take action to acquire Greenland, the world's largest island, from Denmark. Following his threatening request, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen had a 45-minute phone conversation with Trump and later hosted her colleagues at her home.
As Trump's statements about acquiring Greenland turn into an increasing foreign policy crisis among NATO allies, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen met with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, and Finnish President Alexander Stubb for dinner to assess the crisis.
"I INVITED MY COLLEAGUES TO DINNER AT MY HOME" Sharing the invitation held at her home on social media, Danish Prime Minister said; "Hello everyone. Here’s a brief update. After our meeting at the Prime Minister's office, I invited my Scandinavian colleagues from Finland, Norway, and Sweden to dinner at my home this evening. We Scandinavian countries have always stood together, and with the new and more unpredictable reality we find ourselves in, alliances and friendships have become even more important." she stated.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, and Finnish President Alexander Stubb "WE HAVE MANY CLOSE ALLIES" During the discussions, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen noted that topics such as Greenland and U.S. President Donald Trump were also addressed; "In our meeting today, we discussed our regional defense and security cooperation. We share the seriousness of the situation. I have no doubt that defense and security will continue to be a high priority in Denmark, the Scandinavian countries, and the rest of Europe, and it must continue to be. I hear from many people - including those of you who write to me - that the situation in the world can create a sense of insecurity in people. I understand. We must not forget that Denmark is not alone. We have many close allies who share our values. And we belong to a continent where we are rapidly moving towards making ourselves even stronger. This is an important task for the government and for me as Prime Minister. This situation is also valid for the military in terms of economic and technological aspects." she said.
