The statements made by Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, the Rector of Üsküdar University, regarding "packaged and unpackaged sugar" have drawn criticism. He was accused of targeting women with his post, and in response, the rector stated, "My intention was misunderstood. I aimed to emphasize that not everything should be shared openly in the digital world."
Üsküdar University Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan came to the agenda with a post he made on social media. While the expressions used by Tarhan quickly caused a strong reaction, he had to explain himself after the criticisms that followed.
"THOSE WHO EXPOSE THEMSELVES ARE UNDER THREAT"
In his post, Tarhan stated, "The private is safe, those who expose themselves are under threat and cannot find peace. Let's look at crime and violence incidents from this perspective as well." Social media users reacted strongly, commenting that these words particularly targeted women.
"I WAS MISUNDERSTOOD"
After the criticisms, Rector Tarhan stated that his words exceeded their purpose. In his written statement, Tarhan used the following expressions:
"I was saddened by the misinterpretation of my 'packaged candy - unwrapped candy' analogy on social media. My intention was to emphasize that not everything should be shared openly in the digital world, highlighting privacy and security risks. However, since I did not specify the subject, my intention led to a misunderstanding. I did not mean to hurt anyone, but only aimed to draw attention to the issue of 'private space.'
