The regulation that extends women's maternity leave from 16 weeks to 24 weeks has been approved by the parliamentary committee. The regulation also grants additional rights to mothers who have completed their maternity leave but have not yet passed 24 weeks since giving birth.

The regulation that extends women's maternity leave to 24 weeks and imposes a social media ban for those under 15 years old has been approved by the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) commission.

MATERNITY LEAVE INCREASES FROM 16 WEEKS TO 24 WEEKS

Within the scope of the Law Proposal on Amendments to the Social Services Law and Certain Laws, it is proposed to extend the current 16-week maternity leave to 24 weeks. The regulation aims to grant mothers a longer leave entitlement.

ADDITIONAL LEAVE RIGHTS FOR CURRENT MOTHERS

With a temporary article added to the proposal in the commission, additional rights have been granted to mothers who have completed the current 16-week maternity leave but have not yet passed 24 weeks since childbirth. Accordingly, if they request it, these mothers will be able to take an additional 8 weeks of leave.

15-YEAR AGE LIMIT FOR SOCIAL MEDIA

Another notable aspect of the regulation is the use of social media. Accordingly, the use of social media by children under the age of 15 will be prohibited.

The mentioned regulation is expected to be discussed in the General Assembly of the Parliament for it to become law, after being approved by the TBMM Health, Family, Labor, and Social Affairs Commission.
