The Ankara Provincial Election Board rejected the request to annul the CHP's 22nd Extraordinary Congress. With this decision, the legal obstacles to holding the congress have been removed. Thus, it has been confirmed that the CHP's 22nd Extraordinary Congress will take place on Sunday, September 21.
CHP'S 22ND EXTRAORDINARY CONGRESS
During the congress, a vote of confidence will be held for the party leadership, party council (PM), and high disciplinary board (YDK).
The reason for convening the congress, which was called at the request of the delegates of the 38th Ordinary Congress, is primarily to show support for Özgür Özel's leadership against a potential annulment decision that may arise in the case regarding the annulment request of the 38th Ordinary Congress at the Ankara 42nd Civil Court of First Instance.
WHAT HAPPENED?
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel held a press conference on September 6, stating that the decision for the extraordinary congress, which he described as "a completely technical and legal move and precaution," is in line with the decisions made by the Supreme Election Board and other bodies.
Özel stated, "I don't anticipate it, but if a trustee is appointed to the party's chairmanship on the 15th, that trustee will stay there for six days. Because this is a process that the party's chairman cannot stop. Six days later, the party will re-elect its chosen chairman," he had expressed.
