On June 19, 2024, during the night hours, police teams conducting a traffic operation on Fırat Boulevard in the Kayapınar district of Diyarbakır attempted to stop the vehicle driven by Aykut Şahmeran. The driver, who did not heed the police's "Stop" warning, hit traffic police officer Fatih Oral (46) who was on duty at the checkpoint.
THE DRIVER WAS FOUND TO BE 2.34 PROMILE INTOXICATED
The seriously injured police officer was taken to Gazi Yaşargil Training and Research Hospital by ambulance. It was determined that Aykut Şahmeran had a blood alcohol level of 2.34 promille. Şahmeran, who was detained, was arrested at the courthouse after his procedures at the police station for the charges of 'endangering traffic safety' and 'causing injury by negligence.' Meanwhile, the accident was captured by the security camera of a nearby business.
MARTYRED 19 MONTHS LATER
The police officer Fatih Oral, who was being treated for serious injuries in the hospital, was brought to Aydın where his wife lived. Oral, who was receiving treatment at Çine State Hospital, was martyred yesterday, 19 months later. His body was handed over to his relatives after the autopsy conducted at Adnan Menderes University Hospital.
HIS WIFE AND DAUGHTERS CRIED
A ceremony was held in front of the hospital for Oral. During the ceremony, the wife of the martyr, Tuğba Oral, and their three daughters could not hold back their tears. Aydın Provincial Police Chief Armağan Adnan Erdoğan conveyed his condolences to the family.
HIS BODY WAS SENT TO HIS HOMETOWN
Oral's body was placed in a funeral vehicle by the Aydın Provincial Police Department's honor guard and sent to his hometown, Konya.
