A skier who was caught under an avalanche on Mount Artos and was dragged for 60 meters managed to rescue himself. The miraculous escape was captured by a drone.
A group of skiers climbed to the 3,550-meter-high Artos Mountain, where there were meters of snow, in the Gevaş district of Van yesterday.
RESCUED FROM THE AVALANCHE WITH HIS OWN MEANS
The skiers reached the summit after a challenging climb that lasted about 4 hours, and after taking a break, they began to descend by snowboarding in a steep area. During this time, Şahabettin Gün, who was buried under the avalanche that fell near the summit, managed to escape with his own means after being dragged by the snow for a while.
THE MOMENTS WERE CAPTURED BY DRONE
Gün's friends, who were rescued just in time from the avalanche, had to descend via a different route. The moments of the avalanche falling and the skier's rescue were captured by a drone.
"I ESTIMATE THAT I WAS DRAGGED FOR ABOUT 60 METERS"
Skier Gün told AA correspondent that he noticed the snow masses breaking while descending from a steep slope of Artos Mountain. Stating that he suddenly found himself in the middle of the avalanche, Gün recorded: "I threw myself to the right at the last moment. Still, I couldn't escape the avalanche. I estimate that I was dragged for about 60 meters. I managed to get out on my own because I didn't panic. I got out of the avalanche without any problems. I noticed that my friends were scared too. We can encounter such situations."
